Fire! Fire!! (Trilogy)

Part 1. Fire! Fire!!

“Doctor right this way! She’s in here!”

Part 2. Fire! Fire!! (Sequel)

The throng of people pushed and weighed in heavy on the doctor, passerby and the girl. The circle was deepening with onlookers. Everyone was recounting their version of the facts; the cacophony of voices drowning each other out.

Some said, “It was a Roar, Poof and Whoosh!”

Others demanded it was, “Poof, Whoosh, and Roar!”

Still others demanded, “Whoosh, Roar, and then Poof!”

The doctor hollered, “Push back and give us some air!” While the passerby and doctor waited for the billowing smoke to clear.

Part 3. Fire! Fire!! (Conclusion)

The passerby knelt by the girl lying on the floor. As he reached for her wrist to feel for a pulse…

“Ahem, excuse me young man,” the doctor said clearing his throat, “Don’t you think that’s my job? And what relation are you to this girl? Who are you? Who is she?
Do you know this girl? What started this fire? What was the accelerator?”

The passerby astonishingly replied, “I’ve never seen her before! I was sitting across the room, she got up to leave and that’s when everything went dark. Then suddenly there was a flash of light, and the next thing I knew, people were yelling, “Fire! Fire!!”

As the doctor and passerby hashed over these details, a slight stirring came from the girl. The passerby looked for movement from her eyes, and as they slowly opened, the doctor asked hurriedly, “Miss, are you alright?”

She blinked back and responded, “Why, yes, I’ve never felt more alive.”

minnows

minnow, minnow
follow the line,
raise up
the little fish
peering eyes--
no need for hook
just cup your hand--
now who's who?
within
this watery
land--
